New Mexico Mountain Men

smallNMMM

The New Mexico Mountain Man Association was founded in 1977 by Bob Fleming and Jim Traver in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  There was a great desire by these two gentlemen to establish an organization that would be centered around the great American Fur Trade Era and reliving, re-enacting, and enjoying the great outdoors as the original mountain men did.  They established the framework for our organization and our present members are all dedicated to preserving this great historical time period (1780 – 1840).

Our organization is dedicated to ensuring that the history and heritage of the fantastic Fur Trade Era of the early 1800’s is preserved.  We strive to develop active programs of outdoor activities, of which shooting muzzle loading firearms, gun safety, camping, dressing in clothing of the period, and researching and living the old ways of the mountain man and Indian are an integral part.  We encourage family participation in all aspects of our activities.  If you feel “Born out of Time”, have a need of belonging to a historical organization, or just want to get away from the normal daily routines, then consider becoming a member of the New Mexico Mountain Man Association.  We hope you will.

Mountain Man Member:  Complete written application and mail to Club purser.  Each applicant must be approved by two current members in good standing.  Within a year of joining the NMMM, a new member should have made progress toward achieving period appearance and participation in Club activities.

The NMMM also provide an opportunity for members to demonstrate period skills and be acknowledged for their achievements.  An explanation of our skills/achievement system can be found on Requirements for Membership/Achievement in the NMMM.
